How To Make Decoden Cream: DIY Fake Whipped Cream for Decoden

How to make decoden cream

You’ve probably seen phone cases with adorable charms or wall art that looks like it was made with fake whipped cream. Learn how to make decoden cream. Decoden cream, also known as whipped cream clay or whipped cream glue, is a popular material used in crafting to create realistic-looking whipped cream decorations on various items such as phone cases, jewelry boxes, and more. Here’s a simple recipe to make your own decoden cream:

Decoden cream looks like whipped cream

Ingredients for DIY decoden cream:

  1. 100% silicone sealant (make sure it’s a neutral cure and not an acetic cure to avoid strong odors)
  2. Cornstarch or baking powder
  3. Acrylic paint (optional, for coloring)

If you do not want to make your own decoden cream, you can often find something called cream clay at the craft store. However, the hardware store will have a great value and you can purchase the silicone at a low price. You will get the best chance on black Friday, but silicone isn’t crazy expensive anyway.

Instructions: How To Make Decoden Cream

  1. Start by preparing a clean, dry mixing bowl and spatula.
  2. Squeeze out a desired amount of silicone sealant into the bowl. The amount depends on how much decoden cream you want to make.
  3. Add a small amount of cornstarch or baking powder to the silicone sealant. Start with a teaspoon and mix it well with the spatula. Add more cornstarch or baking powder gradually until you achieve the desired consistency. The mixture should become thick and creamy, similar to whipped cream.
  4. If you want to color your decoden cream, you can add a small amount of acrylic paint to the mixture and thoroughly mix until the color is evenly distributed. Remember that a little goes a long way with acrylic paint, so start with a small amount and add more as needed.
  5. Once you’re satisfied with the consistency and color of your decoden cream, it’s ready to use!
  6. Transfer the decoden cream into a piping bag or a plastic squeeze bottle with a small tip to easily apply it to your craft projects.
  7. After using the decoden cream, make sure to seal the remaining mixture tightly to prevent it from drying out.

Tips:

  • Experiment with different ratios of silicone sealant to cornstarch or baking powder to achieve the perfect consistency for your projects.
  • Avoid using too much cornstarch or baking powder, as it can make the decoden cream too stiff and difficult to work with.
  • If you want your whipped cream decorations to have a glossy finish, you can add a small amount of clear gloss varnish to the mixture.
  • Practice piping the decoden cream onto a scrap piece of paper or cardboard before applying it to your actual project to get a feel for how it behaves.
  • Allow your decoden cream decorations to dry completely before handling them to avoid smudging or damaging the design.

When I made decoden mobile cases for phones with my middle school classes, we used spackle and paint in a piping bag and that worked great!
