Easy Handmade Tie Dye Soap - Melt And Pour Soap Bar Tutorial
Today at Art Beat Box, we're getting our hands a little messy and a lot colorful with a fun project: creating your very own tie dye soap! This unique craft combines the nourishing properties of handmade soap with the vibrant swirls of tie-dye.

What kind of soap base can you use for Tie dye soap?
Handmade soap is popular because you can incorporate different nourishing ingredients tailored to your preferences. For creating stunning tie-dye soap, you'll want to use a pour soap base.
There are several different types of melt and pour soaps, but a shea butter soap base is particularly popular due to its creamy texture and moisturizing properties.
This Tie dye soap base blends effortlessly with essential oils and soap colorants, allowing the vivid colors to pop and swirl beautifully. Other popular soap bases have olive oil, castor oil, or coconut oil in them. The soap base you choose is really up to personal preference!

How to make easy handmade tie dye soap
1. Put 2-3 drops of your favorite colors of soap colorant inside your mold. Be careful not to spill.

2. Using a toothpick, swirl the pigment (make sure to spread pigment around) so that it doesn’t pool in one spot.

3. Carefully use a sharp knife to cut about 4-5 cubes of soap base for each mold you wish to fill.
4. Place the pieces of soap base in microwave safe bowl/ container.
5. Heat the soap base pieces for 30 seconds in the microwave. Be careful, soap will be hot when you remove it from the microwave.
6. Carefully mix soap using the popsicle stick or a spoon.
7. If it is still lumpy or gooey, heat the soap again for 10 seconds and mix. Repeat in 10 second intervals until the soap is smooth with no lumps. Be careful, soap will be hot.
8. Immediately pour the melted soap into the mold.
9. Using a toothpick, gently swirl the soap/pigment mixture again (Do not swirl too much or colors will mix too much). You can add a few more drops of pigment if you want.

10. Wait at least three hours at room temperature before taking soap out of the mold.
(You can speed the soap hardening process up by carefully placing soap mold into your refrigerator or freezer for one hour.)

Tips & tricks for making tie dye soap
If you love making hand soap, you can experiment!
- You can make fun designs like layered soap! All you have to do is make one layer of solid white soap.
- Let it dry completely. Next, melt 2-3 squares of soap base, add a single color of pigment and pour it on top of the white layer.
- This makes a nice striped effect. Make sure each layer is completely hard before adding the next layer. Repeat until mold is layered to the top.
- You can make beautiful flower soaps by adding dried flowers.
- Mix in some coffee grounds to your hand soap for extra exfoliation.
- Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the soap base for a relaxing scent.
- You cannot heat store-bought soap.
- If you do not like what you’ve made, you can re-heat and try again.
- Cleaning hand soap making supplies is easy, just add water!
- You can make hand soap in small batches; one bar at a time.
- It is ok to heat soap base in the same microwave that is used for food.
- When swirling hot soap and pigment inside the mold, you want the colors to coexist. You do not want the colors to completely mix. Be careful not to over-mix.
- (Optional) To avoid bubbles in the hand soap, spray the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol (90% or more works best, but any kind will help reduce bubbles). Do this while soap is still in a liquid form.
- Hand soap colorant will stain, be extra careful when using.
