Chocolate Thanksgiving Oreo Dessert!

A Fun Family Tradition

I started making these cute turkey-shaped treats when my kids were just toddlers. They were 2 and 4 years old, and I was looking for something simple to make that didn’t require a lot of dishes or, frankly, a lot of patience!

Over the years, our cute little Oreo turkeys have become a beloved Thanksgiving tradition. Now, even as they’ve gotten older, it’s still something we look forward to every year. The best part? You don’t need to use the oven at all!

Each Thanksgiving, we make these easy no-bake Thanksgiving desserts using Oreo cookies, leftover Halloween candy, and other fun ingredients. The turkeys always turn out a little different – some more quirky than others – but that’s what makes them fun.

Every turkey has its own personality, which is a fun surprise for the kids. They even compete to see who can make the silliest turkey!

What You’ll Need for These No-Bake Turkey Treats

To make these no-bake treats, you'll need just a few simple ingredients you can find at any grocery store. These chocolate turkey Oreos are such a fun Thanksgiving project and a great way to add a festive touch without taking up oven space. Plus, they’re a fantastic way to use up leftover Halloween candy!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Double stuffed Oreos (1 package makes about 10-15 turkeys, depending on how many break)

  • Chocolate frosting (or you can use cool whip if you prefer something lighter)

  • Pieces of candy corn

  • Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Rolos

  • Hershey’s Kisses

  • Twizzlers or Swedish Fish (for the turkey waddle)

  • Toothpicks (helpful for spreading the frosting)

  • Edible candy eyes

  • Sharp knife

How to Make These Adorable Turkey Treats

Making these no-bake Thanksgiving desserts is super easy and fun! Here's a step-by-step guide so you can make them with your family for the big day and enjoy the process as much as we do:

Step 1: Cut Your Oreos

Cut off about 1/3 of the Oreo cookie. It doesn’t matter if it’s the top or the bottom. Do this for half of your double-stuffed Oreos. Some will likely break, but don’t stress – that just means you get to eat them! That’s the best part of making these no-bake desserts.

Cut off the top of the cookie

Step 2: Create the Feathers

Using a toothpick, spread some chocolate frosting on the rounded edge of the Oreo. Stick candy corns into the frosting in a fan shape to create the turkey’s feathers. Hold both sides of the cookie as you do this so it doesn’t break. If it does, just use more frosting to “glue” it back together!

Add candy corn feathers

Step 3: Assemble the Body

Frost the flat edge of your Oreo and press it to the whole oreo. Put the flat side of the oreo to the back of the oreo to make a “chair.”

Frost the Oreos together to make a “chair”

Then, Frost the bottom of a mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (or Rolo) and press it onto the flat side of the Oreo, positioning it at the front. This will form the turkey’s body.

Extra tip: If you freeze the peanut butter cups and kisses ahead of the project, the chocolate won’t melt as easily as it does at room temperature.

Add the Reese’s cup as the turkey body

Step 4: Add the Head

Take a Hershey’s Kiss and frost the back, then stick it on top of the peanut butter cup with the pointy side sticking out like a beak.

Step 5: Finish the Details

Cut the tail off of a Swedish Fish or Twizzler, frost it, and press it below the Hershey’s Kiss to create the turkey’s waddle. Add a little frosting to the backs of the candy eyes and stick them onto the Kiss to complete the face.

No-Bake Turkey Treat Tips and Variations

Almost too pretty to eat them!

What I love most about this no-bake recipe is how customizable they are! You can make them your own by switching out ingredients to suit your preferences.

Not a fan of candy corn? Try pretzel sticks as turkey feathers.

Want to make them even more festive? Use orange or red frosting instead of chocolate.

You can also swap out the Hershey’s Kisses for malted milk balls or use a spiced-up box of vanilla pudding or vanilla extract to add a little extra flavor to the mix.

If you need to save time on turkey day, you can even make these cute turkey cookies a few days ahead. Just store them in an airtight container so they stay fresh until your big Thanksgiving dinner.
